When you press the brakes, they slow down your vehicle’s rotation through friction.
The brake pads on your vehicle are metal plates located on each side of the brake rotors which are the rotating discs that ultimately are attached to your vehicle’s wheels.
Upon pressing down on the brake inside your vehicle the caliper will activate on each of the brake pads helping to sandwich the rotor.
Eventually, through friction, the wheels will come to a stop.
Brake inspections are important because they can save you from a hazardous situation. If your brakes make noises, grabbed or pulsing feeling when applying pressure to them then don’t wait for the next time this happens! Your brakes are designed to stop the metal of your calipers from grinding against and damaging them. The more you use them the faster they wear out. A little bit goes a long way with brake pads or shoes as these items have limited life spans before needing replacement. Here’s a general rule on when you should have your brakes inspected or replaced:
Squeaking or grinding
A burning smell
Brakes become hard to press or are very soft.
Vibration when pressing your steering wheel.
